Applying

Obtain Your University of Michigan Identification Number

What are the benefits of registering for an identification number?

  • Indicating your University of Michigan ID on your application and supporting documents allows your records to be matched and processed more quickly!
  • You will receive your University of Michigan ID number approximately 7-10 business days after you register as a Future Rackham Graduate Student. Use this ID number in all correspondence with the University.

Register as a Future Graduate Student

Note

If your program's deadline date is within 7-10 days and you have not received a U-M ID#, submit your official academic records/transcripts to Rackham with your date of birth and the name of the program to which you are applying. You do not need to wait to receive your U-M ID# to apply by your program's deadline date.

The U-M# is not required to submit the online application, however it is helpful in expediting the process.

Notifications

You will receive two e-mails after you register.

  • The acknowledgement e-mail will be sent to you shortly after registering.
  • The second e-mail, which contains your U-M ID#, will be sent to you within 7-10 business days.

Begin Your Application

Submit the application 2-3 weeks before the graduate program's deadline date. Early submission of your application is the best way to avoid unnecessary delays.

Dial-up connections are not the best method for working on the application. Users may experience trouble uploading required documents.

Notifications

You will receive an e-mail after you apply acknowledging that you have created an account and started the application. This will be sent to you shortly after logging in. This e-mail provides a link back to the online application for future reference.
