Application Fee and Payment

Announcement

Rackham Graduate School will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday from 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 25 to 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 29.

Application Fee

  • United States citizens and those with permanent resident visa status, $75
  • Non-U.S. citizens, $90
  • Current Rackham students, regardless of citizenship, $10

The application fee is due when you submit your application. The fee is non-refundable and subject to change.

Application Fee Waivers

Rackham administers fee waivers. To qualify you must meet the requirements for a specific fee waiver listed below. In addition, the program to which you are applying must be a Rackham graduate program. To verify that your program of interest is a Rackham program, check the Programs of Study.

If you do not qualify for a fee waiver, you will be required to pay the application fee at the time you submit your application. Rackham makes no exceptions to these waivers;

One Rackham administered fee waiver is allowed per applicant. Additional applications submitted by the applicant will require payment of the application fee.

  • If you pay the application fee and later, you are approved to receive a fee waiver, the fee cannot be refunded.

National Organization Affiliation Fee Waiver

Requirements for Eligibility

  1. To be eligible for this fee waiver you must be a member of one of the following organizations:
    • Gates Millennium Scholars Program (GMS)
    • Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP)
    • Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC)
    • Post-Baccalaureate Research and Education Program (PREP)
    • Public Policy and International Affairs Junior Institute (PPIA)
    • Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE)
    • Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program (McNair)
  2. You must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Instructions

  1. Request an official verification document or letter from the organization before you are ready to submit your application.
  2. Upload the official verification document on the Additional Essay & Information page of the ApplyWeb application. Do not mail, fax, or email the proof of eligibility to the Rackham Graduate School.

Big Ten Academic Alliance – Summer Research Opportunity Programs (BTAA)

Requirements for eligibility

  1. You must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  2. Participation in a Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) at a Big Ten Academic Alliance university with a 3.0 or higher undergraduate GPA OR Non-SROP participant with a 3.5 or higher undergraduate GPA.

Instructions

  1. Apply to the Big Ten Academic Alliance at least 30 days before the application deadline for Summer Research Opportunity Programs (BTAA).
  2. If approved, you will receive a fee waiver code and instructions on how to use the code.

Institute for Recruitment of Teachers (IRT)

  1. Requires pre-approval from IRT.
  2. Contact IRT at 978-749-4116 or irt@andover.edu
  3. If approved, you will receive a fee waiver code and instructions on how to use the code.

Current Vista/Peace Corps or AmeriCorps Volunteer

Requirements for eligibility

  1. A current long term (a year or more) volunteer in the Vista/Peace Corps or AmeriCorp. If less than a year your request will be denied.

Instructions

  1. Request a letter of verification from your supervisor at least one month before your program deadline or the date you plan to submit your application.
    • The letter must include the following: Your name, dates of service, email address, phone number, and immediate supervisor’s signature to verify your status as a current Vista/Peace Corps or AmeriCorps volunteer.
  2. Fax your letter to 734-647-9378.
  3. You need to allow 10 business days from the date Rackham receives the request for the final email decision.
  4. If approved, you will receive a fee waiver code to enter into the online application. The code is required to submit the application.

Need Based Fee Waiver

Undergraduates receiving financial aid

Requirements for eligibility

  1. A U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States (with a registration number).
  2. An undergraduate college senior receiving financial aid at an institution in the United States, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
  3. Classified as a dependent with a parental contribution of not more than $900.00 and no personal contribution during the senior year.
    OR
    Classified as self-supporting with a personal contribution of not more than $1,200 during the senior year and received no parental funds.

Instructions

  1. Complete the Rackham Need Based Fee Waiver Application.
  2. Provide a copy of your Student Aid Report. The Student Aid Report can be printed. Log in using your FSA ID number and choose Student Aid Report (SAR).
  3. Fax the completed form and a copy of your Undergraduate Student Aid Report to Rackham at 734-647-9378 for review.
  4. This Rackham Fee Waiver requires pre-approval from Rackham. You need to allow 10 business days from the date Rackham receives the request for the final email decision.
  5. If approved, you will receive a fee waiver code to enter into the online application. The code is required to submit the application.

Undocumented or DACAmented Immigrants Fee Waiver

Requirements for eligibility

  1. Applicant in Undocumented to DACAmented immigrant status.

Instructions

  1. Fax a letter stating that you are an undocumented or DACAmented student currently in the United States.
  2. Provide name of the institution you are currently attending and anticipated graduation date. If you have graduated from a college or university, provide the date of graduation.
  3. Fax the letter to 734-647-9378.
  4. You need to allow 10 business days from the date Rackham receives the request for the final email decision.
  5. If approved, you will receive a fee waiver code to enter into the online application. The code is required to submit the application.

Graduate Program Fee Waiver (administered by a U-M School/College or Organization)

To be eligible for the waivers listed below you must contact the U-M School, college, or program directly.

  1. College of Engineering – Ph.D. for COE-PHD codes or Recruiting program for COE-REC (Master’s) codes (Waivers require pre-approval from the College of Engineering)
  2. Master’s Bridge Programs Waiver – (requires pre-approval from the program)
  3. Public Policy M.P.P. or M.P.A. – Teach for America and Former Volunteer (Vista/Peace Corps/AmeriCorps) – U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents only.
  4. School of Information Ph.D. program application fee waivers: Former volunteer (PeaceCorps/AmeriCorps) – U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents only.
