Welcome

The University of Michigan and three other major research institutions in the state have established one of the Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate, a program funded by the National Science Foundation to advance underrepresented minority graduate students in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as they pursue their degrees, and to enhance their preparation for faculty positions in academia. The Michigan AGEP Alliance (MAA) includes the graduate schools at Michigan State University, University of Michigan (lead institution), Wayne State University and Western Michigan University.

The University is also a partner in another alliance to advance underrepresented minority students in the social, behavioral and economic sciences (SBE). The City University of New York leads the CUNY/MAA Alliance, which also includes the graduate schools at Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and Wayne State University.

The University benefits from the further enrichment and diversification of the entire learning community, and MAA students benefit from the combined resources of the five outstanding universities in our alliance, as well as a network of 80 AGEP alliances across the U.S. For a list of alliances, visit the national Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate website.
