For Current Students

Apply and Make a Difference

You probably still remember your first year at the University of Michigan – the wide array of questions you had, the challenges you faced adjusting to a new environment, and the people who made an impact on you. Now you can make a difference by providing assistance to new international graduate students.

We are seeking approximately 50 dedicated University of Michigan graduate students who are enthusiastic about welcoming and making connections with incoming international graduate students. Domestic and international students are invited to apply.

Volunteers from all disciplines across the University have participated and found the experience to be extremely enjoyable and beneficial. By participating in the I-Connect Welcome Program, you not only act as a positive ambassador welcoming newcomers to the University of Michigan, you also connect with other scholars from around the world and participate in valuable intercultural networking and exchange.

If you are selected to be an I-Connect Ambassador, your role is simple:

  • Attend at least four of the seven I-Connect social events planned for the year – at these events, you will serve as the “friendly face” of Rackham, helping to make new students feel welcome and make connections
  • Participate in Rackham-coordinated social networking and information-sharing via sites such as CTools and Facebook throughout the semester
  • Have fun meeting people from around the world and doing your part to welcome them to U-M
