Application Process
The information below will guide you through the application process for U-M’s Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) in 2012. Please read the content carefully and follow the application guidelines closely. SROP will run from May 29-July 28, 2012. Undergraduates who will be entering their Junior or Senior years are eligible for participation in the program. For more information about the application process, the application timeline and required documents, carefully read the information below.
If you are interested in applying for a SROP research project in Engineering for summer 2012 please apply at the Summer Undergraduate Research in Engineering (SURE) website.
Please read thoroughly the SROP Application Process and Guidelines before starting the application.
Students Applying via the University of Michigan website must:
- Complete and successfully submit the Online Application
- Complete and successfully submit the Online Personal/Academic Statement
- Complete and successfully submit the Online Faculty Mentor Selection
- Contact two Academic References with instructions on how to submit Online Letters of Recommendation. NOTE: Faculty usually require at least three weeks notice to write a recommendation. Two complete Letters of Recommendation must be received by Feb 13, 2012 for program consideration. Do not submit Letters of Recommendation in hard copy form.
- Order an official transcript or transcripts which reflect all earned undergraduate credits and grades through December 2011. Transcripts must be postmarked by February 13, 2012 and mailed to: Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP), 1530 Rackham Building, 915 E. Washington Street, Suite 1530, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1070.
Application Materials
- Only application materials submitted online (application, personal and academic statements, faculty mentor selection, and letters of recommendation) using the U-M website will be reviewed. Hard (paper) copies will not be accepted (with the exception of official transcripts).
- Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted or considered.
Application Deadline
Applications and supporting documentation must be received online by February 13, 2012 (11:59 p.m. EST). Transcripts must be postmarked by this date.
The online application materials will not be available after February 13, 2012 (11:59 EST).
U-M will begin notifying applicants of acceptance into U-M SROP by e-mail on March 5, 2012. Offers of acceptance will continue until all available spots are filled. Accepted applicants will be required to complete an online registration for their participation within one week of notification along with confirmation of health/medical insurance.
Applicants who do not receive an offer of acceptance by e-mail will be notified of their status in early May 2012.
