TCF Bank

TCF Bank is the official partner and proud provider of financial services for the University of Michigan's Mcard Program. TCF Bank offers students specially priced bank accounts and banking services, including the Totally Free Mcard Checking account. TCF Bank is the only bank in which your Mcard can be linked to your checking account allowing the Mcard to be used as an ATM/debit card. So instead of having a separate bank card filling up your wallet, you would use your Mcard instead.

U-M Credit Union

U-M Credit Union may be helpful for international students because they are willing to work with people who are not American citizens. The Credit Union also provides budget counseling to help you create a financial plan.

Budget Counseling

If you have a pressing financial problem and you are a member of the University of Michigan Credit Union, you are eligible for a budget counseling session at no cost to you.

Budget counselors Kathryn Greiner and Beth Blanco will analyze your income, basic living expenses, and debts during an initial two-hour consultation. This no-cost review will help you identify your short and long-term goals and determine the best way to achieve them.

After the initial session, you may choose to attend the no-cost "Money Management Skill Building Workshop" held monthly. Attendees learn how to develop a plan for spending, bill paying and saving, and receive a Bill Book to organize their finances.

Other workshops are presented during the year to educate members on the wise use of credit and preventing identity theft.

To schedule an appointment, call Kathryn or Beth at UMCU: 734-662-8200 or 800-968-8628, extension 2741 (Kathryn) or extension 2742 (Beth).
