La Carpa – the Mobile Memory Museum: A Project of El Museo del Norte
This project team is working in their second phase to design a mobile exhibit of photos, digitized documents, letters and ephemera, and audio that will travel to key Latina/o communities in Michigan. The exhibit will be accompanied by an interactive timeline into which visitors can insert their own histories of migration to and from Michigan. The project aims to raise awareness about the need for a museum in Southwest Detroit, to involve Latina/o communities as agents and creators of history, and to expand the visibility of the original museum project.
