Eligibility Requirements
Please read eligibility requirements carefully, as they may differ between participating institutions. Students from diverse backgrounds in the humanities, arts, social sciences, engineering and physical or natural sciences are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must:
- Be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Demonstrate that they will contribute to the diversity of the community of scholars in the Summer Research Opportunity Program. Students from racial and ethnic minority groups or low-income family backgrounds or who are first-generation American citizens or first-generation college students are especially encouraged to apply.
- Have a minimum overall 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
- Have matriculated into an undergraduate institution demonstrating completion of at least two years at that institution prior to the summer program. High school students with advanced placement or college credits are not eligible.
- Be entering their junior or senior year in college and not scheduled to graduate before December 2009.
- Have an interest in pursuing a doctoral degree in one of the Rackham Graduate Programs (https://secure.rackham.umich.edu/academic_information/programs/#annarbor). Please note that this does not include programs leading to professional degrees, e.g. Medical School (MD), Law School (JD), Business School (MBA), or MD/PhD.
- Have a genuine interest in academic research and/or teaching as a career.
- Have personal medical/health insurance coverage throughout the duration of the program.
- Complete the U-M SROP online application and submit all supporting documentation before February 9, 2010; 11:59 p.m. (EST)
Note: We are not able to accept students currently enrolled at the University of Michigan. For currently enrolled U-M students, please contact the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program for more information on summer internships at U-M. Also, visit the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) website for more information on other SROP programs.
