PLAN, Manage Your Professional Development as a Graduate Student
Posted Friday, September 11th, 2009
The Rackham Graduate School is launching PLAN: Profession, Life, Academics, Networks during the Fall Term.
PLAN is a tool to help graduate students manage their professional and academic development. They can learn about and register for workshops and events, and get information about topics important for their success. PLAN includes workshops, training sessions, forums, and consultation sessions appropriate for each stage, and that are organized around the categories of Profession, Life, Academics, and Networks.
For doctoral students, PLAN is built around three stages of doctoral education: the first years of graduate study and readying for candidacy; transition to candidacy and the dissertation; and preparation for the dissertation defense and a career.
Later this fall, a version of PLAN will be launched for students in master's programs. All PLAN events are open to all students, and master's students will find much that is especially relevant to their academic and professional development in stage one and stage two of the doctoral PLAN.
These workshops and events are offered by Rackham and its partners, including The Career Center, the Center for the Education of Women, the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching, the Center for Statistical Consultation and Research, Counseling and Psychological Services, the English Language Institute, the International Center, the International Institute, the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Sweetland Writing Center, the University Library Knowledge Navigation Center, and Women in Science and Engineering.
PLAN will receive regular updates about workshops and other events. It will be augmented during the coming year to allow students to select and register for events tailored to their needs, and to provide online access to resources for professional and career development.
