The event also features messages from the members of Graduate Rackham International (GRIN), Rackham Student Government (RSG), and Students of Color of Rackham (SCOR). As an added bonus you will hear our resident a capella group, the GradTONES.

    The new school year is almost here. So come enjoy one last party before it starts! RSG, SCOR, and GRIN are throwing a block party for all Rackham students and their families. There will be food, music, games, and an opportunity to talk to representatives from your student organizations.

    Join Rackham alumnus Dr. Tom Battle as he talks about his career as a Consultant in the extractive metallurgy field. Dr. Battle will share insights about careers in consulting and industry. He received his Ph.D. from Rackham in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, and has thirty years of experience in both research and practice in extractive metallurgy.

    Focusing on your strengths and those of your fellow coworkers/teammates helps increase engagement and satisfaction. During this workshop you will take the Gallup Strengthsfinder assessment on site and be given your top 5 leadership strengths. You will also engage in a series of activities that will enhance your self-awareness and your ability to understand strengths-based leadership.

    Navigating career fairs can be a difficult task for any student, especially an international student. The University Career Center will coach graduate international students on how to best prepare for and navigate campus career fairs, and to effectively build a strong resume.

This panel will feature professionals in the tech and biotech industries, and will be a great opportunity to discuss how to make the transition from academia to industry.     This workshop will focus on helping graduate students to examine the holistic dimensions of well-being, and identify specific tools to enhance the dimensions that may need more attention. We will discuss the positive elements of stress, along with ways to prevent and work through the negative elements of stress.

    Rackham Graduate School strives to makes its programs and services as parent-friendly as possible. During this panel, representatives from Rackham Graduate School, the Center for the Education of Women, and the Work-Life Resource Center will discuss the different programs, policies, and resources to assist you and your family during your time on campus.

    During this workshop you will learn important steps you can take to jump start your career options as a first-year student at Rackham. This session will also expose you to the multiple resources and options you can receive through the University Career Center and the Rackham Graduate School. The session will conclude with a panel of Ph.D.s who have successfully engaged in career planning in early stages of their studies.

    Increasingly, hiring committees are interested in how prospective faculty job candidates will contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a result, many academic employers have begun to request a "diversity statement" as part of the faculty job application process.
