Humanities Communication Beyond the Ivory Tower: Graduate Student Workshop

Date:
Saturday, March 10, 2018 - 10:00am to 1:00pm
Location:

East Conference Room, 4th Floor, Rackham Building

Description:

There is a movement happening within the discipline of history. Historians recognize that traditional scholarly communication channels (e.g., monographs, academic articles) have limited reach, appeal, and impact among non-experts. During this workshop, graduate students in the humanities and social sciences will learn to be better communicators with tips and tools to bolster public outreach, stimulate public interest in history and the humanities, and develop strategies to reach twenty-first century STEM-driven media and audiences by applying the principles of the emerging field of history communication to their own work. This workshop is for anyone who wants to communicate better about their work with a message of relevance in mind. The workshop will be facilitated by Jason Steinhauer, Director of the Lepage Center for History in the Public Interest. Co-sponsored by the Rackham Program in Public Scholarship and Graduate Student Programs.

This workshop is designed for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Space is limited. For faculty and staff, please contact RackhamEvents@umich.edu to see if we can accommodate your attendance.
