Nov 2 2017 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

This program addresses the many hidden ways in which culture influences behavior. Starting with an understanding of American culture, this session then focuses on cultural differences between countries and how “common sense” assumptions we make about others may be flawed. Examples focus on verbal and non-verbal communication, symbolic meaning, cultural norms and cultural values.

Nov 2 2017 - 5:00pm to 7:00pm

Graduate school can be daunting. It’s often an extended exercise in not being told about the things you’d better know. The path to success is seldom smooth nor clear, populated by busy people and opaque processes. Alas, here is a forum for graduate students to hear from their senior colleagues about challenges in their academic journeys and how they overcame them.
