Academic Writing in English as a Second Language
Presenter: Chris Feak Graduate students face a variety of writing tasks as they work toward their chosen degrees. These tasks can be particularly challenging for graduate students who are writing in English as a non-native language. This workshop will provide an overview of some important characteristics of academic writing in English, including strategic language choices, establishing strong connections among ideas, and establishing a stance, all of which contribute toward positioning yourself as a member of your chosen field through your written work.
This workshop is offered in collaboration with the English Language Institute (ELI). It is designed specifically for international graduate students, but is open to all international and domestic students and their family members. Feel free to bring your questions and concerns to the discussion. Contact Kim Greenwell at kgreenwe@umich.edu for further information.
Pre-registration is required.
