Reflection on Commencement

Throughout graduate school, I consistently heard from recent graduates that turning in the final copy of your dissertation—one of the most significant educational milestones—is one of the most anti-climactic. I always thought, “No, that’s not how it will be for me! How is that even possible?” And then I found myself in the basement of Rackham. I was turning in my dissertation and, much to my surprise, was underwhelmed with emotion. It felt comparable to turning in a small homework assignment and receiving a piece of paper with a “gold star” in return.

Rackham Celebrates Signing Day 2017 – Picture Gallery

Last week, Rackham celebrated Signing Day, when incoming students make their decision to pursue a graduate degree at the University of Michigan. Signing Day is a celebration for incoming graduate students, current Rackham students, and alumni. Guests signed their names on a map of Michigan and took photos for a Rackham photo wall. The event also included free t-shirts and mugs, as well as breakfast and lunch in the Rackham lobby.
