What’s New at Rackham for 2011/2012

We at the Rackham Graduate School have been busy over the summer developing new ways to share information with you about resources at Rackham and elsewhere on campus that can support your success. I encourage you to take a look at our new projects and features on the Rackham website.

For example, you’ll see that our website homepage features blogs by Rackham staff. These “insider’s views” will share up-to-date pointers about professional development opportunities, issues in graduate education, tips on maintaining wellness, campus news, and much more. Content for PLAN, the program designed to help you make the most of graduate school through academic, personal and professional development opportunities, will also be featured in the blog.

We’ll also showcase a rotating group of graduate student bloggers this year as they share their perspectives on graduate student life. And we’ve posted a new set of video interviews with current students on Rackham’s channel on YouTube. There you’ll find graduate students sharing their views on settling into graduate school, getting to know Ann Arbor, and their advice for students with children and international students.

We’ll be looking back this year as well as forward because 2012 is the centennial of the founding of the Graduate School at the University of Michigan. The first event of the Centennial year will feature a screening of The PHD Movie, from the creator of phdcomics.com, Jorge Cham, followed by Q&A with Jorge Cham, book signing, and a Centennial celebration in the lobby. That event will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 7:00 pm in the Rackham Auditorium.

Welcome to the beginning of a new academic year. Whether you are here for the first time and still finding your way around, or returning for more courses or research, I wish you a successful and exciting time in graduate school.
