The January topic for our student bloggers was “Winter in Ann Arbor.” Here is what we’ve learned…
- Winter provides opportunities for a variety of outdoor activities, including snowball fights, sledding, ice skating, and skiing.
- Winter provides opportunities for a variety of indoor activities, including dining in, sitting by a fireplace, hanging “in,” and cooking things to warm you up.
- Winter removes warm weather distractions, so you can focus on writing, research, and applying for grants.
- Winter gives us something to look forward to, like seeing the first signs of spring!
- If you need help figuring out how to make your way around here in the winter, just ask a “Michigander.”
- If you didn’t already know what “black ice” is, you probably will at some point if you drive on Michigan roads.
- Hot chocolate is a remedy for all winter ills.
- Snow can be really beautiful.
- For those of you who are first year students, winter is a time for you to implement what you learned in the fall (e.g., “Michigan time”)
- Take heart: Ann Arbor isn’t the coldest or the snowiest place there is.
- There are many unique winter traditions: Handel’s Messiah, Midnight Madness, Restaurant Week, and the Fire & Ice Festival, to name a few.
- You can walk from the Dana Building to the far southwestern point of the Hatcher Library without stepping foot outside.
- The winter weather gives you an opportunity to purchase a new seasonal wardrobe.
