Did you know that you pay a $1.50 fee to your Rackham Student Government each semester you’re enrolled at the University?
This might not seem like a lot of money, but when you multiply that $1.50 by over 8,000 graduate students you get a good amount of money. Your Rackham Student Government (RSG) is funded solely through this fee and we strive to use it to make our time at the University the best it can be. RSG hosts a number of events on campus ranging from academic lectures to themed bar nights, and everything in between. While we have a lot of good ideas for ways to spend this money, we know that we’re not alone in having good ideas. You have a ton of good ideas! And some of those ideas probably will require some money to make them a reality.
Each semester (including the spring/summer semester), RSG puts aside approximately $5,000 to allocate to student ideas and activities. Getting funded through RSG is extremely easy, and any registered student organization is eligible for funding. And, the bigger the impact that your idea will have on the graduate student body, the more likely we are to fund it!
Does this sound interesting? Do you want some of that money? If you answered yes, please visit our website for more information. You can also visit our budgetary committee’s website to see a list of submitted funding requests as well as their outcome. If you have a great idea but don’t have a student group to request funds, please don’t give up on RSG funding. Forming a student organization is really easy. Visit the Student Orgs web site for information on how to start a new group. Also, if you think that your idea is something that the student government, RSG, should be doing; please send us an e-mail at rsg-exec@umich.edu, we’d love to discuss it with you.
Should you have any questions about RSG funding, please feel free to e-mail our student body treasurer, Mindy Waite at rsgtreasurer@umich.edu. If you have questions about RSG in general, please e-mail me, Michael Benson at rsg-president@umich.edu
