Welcome to a new academic year! All of us at the Graduate School are happy to see you, whether you are here for the first time and still finding your way around, or returning for advanced courses or research. Our blog will keep you posted on opportunities and events open to the graduate community as we go through the academic year.
In 2012 we have been celebrating the founding of the Graduate School in 1912. We have marked our Centennial year with events to explore our history and chart out new directions. This semester we will sponsor a set of Rackham Centennial Alumni Lectures to showcase the intellectual legacy of the University’s graduates. During the month of October, over 60 graduate programs will host a Centennial Lecture delivered by one of their graduates. The topics will be wide-ranging: from recent developments in international trade to gnostic spirituality in antiquity to meeting the challenges of viral infections. Check the listings on http://www.rackham.umich.edu/centennial/centennial_lectures/ for speakers, times and locations, and please come.
If you are in our building, I also invite you to visit the art exhibit on the fourth floor of the Rackham Building, Rackham Centennial Exhibit 2012: Artists, Innovators and Alumni. This exciting display of the imaginative works of our own M.F.A alumni opens in late September.
I wish you a successful and exciting time in graduate school and I look forward to meeting you at one of our Rackham events.
