The Graduate School has developed a number of initiatives and programs designed to improve the resources available to faculty mentors and their students, and really encourage a culture of mentorship here at U-M. One of the ways in which we recognize the importance of mentoring is with three annual faculty awards for outstanding mentorship.
It’s my pleasure to announce the 2013 recipients of these awards sponsored by the Rackham Graduate School. They are:
John H. D’Arms Award for Distinguished Graduate Mentoring in the Humanities
- Louise Stein, Professor of Musicology
- Patricia Yaeger, Professor of English Language and Literature and Professor of Women’s Studies
Rackham Distinguished Graduate Mentoring Award
- Gerald Davis, Wilbur K. Pierpont Professor of Management and Professor of Sociology
- Sioban Harlow, Professor of Epidemiology
- Lori Isom, Professor of Pharmacology and Professor of Molecular and Integrative Physiology
- Daniel Klionsky, Alexander G. Ruthven Professor of Life Sciences and Professor of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology
- Ronald Koenig, Professor of Internal Medicine
Rackham Master’s Mentoring Award
- Mark Hunter, Henry A. Gleason Collegiate Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
The awards ceremony for all of the above will be held on Thursday, April 18 at 2:00 pm in the Rackham Amphitheatre with a public reception to follow. At the same ceremony we’ll honor the achievements of this year’s recipients of the Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Awards. We invite all in the University—students, faculty and staff—to attend the event and congratulate the award recipients. Please contact me at phmccune@umich.edu or 647-4559 if you have any questions.
