Rackham Study Halls Open During Break

The Rackham Building (including the 2nd floor study rooms) will remain open until midnight from Monday-Friday during Spring Break. The front doors to the building will lock at midnight and the lower level lobby doors will lock at 9:00 pm. New Extended Rackham Building Hours

At the request of Rackham Student Government, the Rackham Building (including the 2nd floor study rooms) will remain open until midnight during the week. Ann Arbor Summer Festival on Rackham’s Front Steps

Starting on June 15 and running through July 8, the 29th annual Ann Arbor Summer Festival will set up shop on Rackham’s front steps and on Ingalls Mall. This year’s Summer Festival features over 100 events ranging from music, dance, comedy, and film to spoken word, circus and street arts, and family entertainment. There is a “Culinary Row” of local eateries on E. Washington and free movies projected on a giant screen on Rackham’s steps. This year’s headlining acts include Esperanza Spalding and Rufus Wainwright (please note that these are ticketed events). If you haven’t had the occasion to visit Rackham recently, we hope you stop by and partake in some of the entertainment taking place in our front yard! At the request of Rackham Student Government (RSG), Dean Weiss has agreed to extend the study hall hours Monday, April 9 through Tuesday, April 24 (weekdays only). Rackham’s Planet Blue Efforts

The Rackham Building has received its annual Sustainability Report from Planet Blue. Compared to the weather-adjusted baseline (the baseline was established prior to June 2008), Rackham avoided $198,000 in energy costs in fiscal year 2011. Our FY2011 energy cost was $527,276. Steam usage decreased by 28% (Rackham uses steam for both heating and cooling) and electric usage decreased by 28%. We have been able reduce our usage by changing the building fan schedules, installing motion sensing power strips in offices, installing motion sensing lighting in the second floor study halls, and conserving water in restrooms with dual flush toilets.
