2013 Research Partnership Program

Earlier this month, Vice President for Research Stephen R. Forrest and Dean Janet A. Weiss announced the 2013 Research Partnership Program, which includes two funding opportunities available to faculty and graduate students. The Spring/Summer Research Grants Program awards grants to faculty members who plan to work with doctoral students on scholarly projects during the spring and summer terms. The grants will provide funding to support a doctoral student with a 0.50 GSRA appointment for the spring/summer full term or one of the half terms. Funding for Conference Travel

Conferences are valuable for your academic and professional development. Rackham graduate students who are presenting or performing at a conference are eligible for a conference travel grant once a year. The Rackham Conference Travel Grant is intended to provide opportunities for Rackham graduate students to become familiar with, and participate in the life of their academic professions. As part of the University’s commitment to advancing international research and training, the International Institute provides funding for 30 awards to international destinations. Your graduate program may help fund your attendance to conferences even if you are not a presenter. Occasionally, organizations hosting the conference offer student rates, work opportunities and/or competitions or scholarships to help students attend. The Barbour Scholarship was established for women of the highest academic and professional caliber from the area formerly known as the Orient (encompassing the lands extending from Turkey in the west to Japan and the Philippines in the east) to study modern science, medicine, mathematics and other academic disciplines and professions critical to the development of their native lands. The Fellowships Office manages competitions for many Rackham fellowships, serves as a liaison for national fellowships and Foreign Exchanges, works with external foundations to arrange cost-sharing programs for students, provides funding to graduate programs for their students, and assists with summer research funding. The Fellowship Office also serves as liaison for many prestigious national fellowships including the National Science Foundation (NSF), Ford Foundation, Spencer Foundation, GEM, Javits Fellowships, and EPA STAR.
