Bouchet Scholar Reflects on His Induction and Academic Excellence
I was in awe learning about the accomplishments Dr. Bouchet made in his lifetime. When I learned that I would be inducted into the honor society named after him, I was humbled. Being smart and enjoying school often singled me out and/or somehow made me "weird" amongst my peers. Having the opportunity to gather and network with other emerging scholars - who look like me - reaffirmed how special I really am. The Bouchet Honor Society was named after a man that struggled so that people that look like me can have increased educational opportunities. Understanding his history, and remembering that of my ancestors before me, reminds me of the great responsibilities I have uplifting my community. Being inducted into this prestigious honor society prompted me to recommit myself to working exceptionally hard on my dissertation and pursue my other tasks with the same integrity and vigor as Dr. Bouchet.
