Rackham Celebrates Signing Day 2017 – Picture Gallery

Last week, Rackham celebrated Signing Day, when incoming students make their decision to pursue a graduate degree at the University of Michigan. Signing Day is a celebration for incoming graduate students, current Rackham students, and alumni. Guests signed their names on a map of Michigan and took photos for a Rackham photo wall. The event also included free t-shirts and mugs, as well as breakfast and lunch in the Rackham lobby.

During the weeks leading up to Signing Day, new students from all over the world shared their excitement about coming to U-M with the hashtag #IChoseUMich, which automatically featured their posts on our online social media map.

100 Years of Barbour Scholars: Introducing the 2017-2018 Cohort

In 1917, Levi Lewis Barbour endowed the Barbour Scholarship at the University of Michigan. Over the course of his lifetime, Barbour was highly involved with U-M, receiving both his undergraduate and law degrees from Michigan, and later serving as a regent. Barbour gained the inspiration for the scholarship during a trip to Asia, which was prompted by the travels of his friend and colleague James B. Angell, who served as university president during the time Barbour was a regent. While traveling, Barbour met with University of Michigan alumni, including Dr. Mary Stone (China), Dr. Ida Kahn (China), and Dr. Tomo Inouye (Japan), who attended the U-M Medical School.
