Alex received an M.A. in Ancient History and Classical Archaeology at the Humboldt-University in Berlin before completing his Ph.D. at U-M in 2010. He worked on the documentation and interpretation of pigments, polychromy and gilding of ancient monuments of the UNESCO cultural heritage site of Perspolis in Iran, in close collaboration with conservation specialists.
