After earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Epidemiology from the American University of Beirut-Lebanon, Adina came to the University of Michigan to pursue her Ph.D. in Epidemiological Science. The focus of her study is to examine the effects of early life exposures on physical and mental health outcomes in older Mexican and Mexican Americans, with an emphasis on the influence of immigration. Her research interests are concerned with the epidemiology of aging populations, the study of cognitive and functional impairments that accompany old age, and international health. With the absence of adequate retirement plans, limited opportunity for health insurance, and general lack of decent living arrangements, she plans to engage in aging research that would ultimately improve the overall quality of life and promote a healthier aging for the elderly population in the Middle East, particularly Lebanon. Her anticipated graduation year is 2011.
