About the Rackham Summer Interdisciplinary Institute

The Rackham Summer Interdisciplinary Institute Program was developed to provide a place where students and faculty can explore the integration of interdisciplinary teaching and research, promoting awareness through the development of public events for the community.

The Goals of the Institute are:

  • To enhance graduate interdisciplinary teaching and research at the University
  • To provide a place where students and faculty can explore opportunities and concerns about the integration of interdisciplinary research and teaching
  • To create a context and community for the exploration of pedagogical approaches, methods and tools suited to interdisciplinary study and research
  • To create databases, bibliographies and materials that enable or support interdisciplinary teaching and research
  • To develop a set of critical questions and ways to promote continued dialogue about interdisciplinary teaching and research
  • To promote awareness of interdisciplinarity through the development of public events for the larger community.
