Associate Dean for Academic Programs And Initiatives

Dean David EngelkeDean Engelke oversees initiatives related to graduate study in the biological, biomedical and health sciences at the University, working closely with Ph.D. and masters degree granting multidisciplinary and graduate programs in the Biological and Health Sciences.

Dean Engelke’s particular responsibilities are to:

  • Act as primary liaison to academic units in Division I (Biological and Health Sciences) regarding such topics as program review, resource allocation, program quality, cross-unit partnerships, climate and culture issues as they affect graduate students.
  • Monitor and facilitate multidisciplinary graduate programs and initiatives in Division I.
  • Facilitate faculty applications for graduate education student training grants to support students in Division I.
  • Facilitate graduate student recruiting efforts with the Rackham staff and other Division I schools.
  • Oversee the Spring/Summer Research Research Grants Program awards process and participation in Rackham Block Grants, awards, and fellowships funding allocations.
  • Lead a collaborative University effort to develop policies and resources for postdoctoral fellows.
  • Plan and support international collaborations.
